In the Beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth.
And it's been downhill since then.

Don't look so surprised. You know what I'm talking about. You see it every day, even in your plain little nine to five lives.

It's the lady downstairs, the one who's been mugged five times this year.

It's the pair of eyes you won't meet, on the subway home from your cubicle to your little box, the ones you hope don't get off behind you at your stop and follow you to some dark place.

It's the talking head on the evening news, gloating as the blood from his story drips off his fangs.

You know what I mean. Ever since Brother Adam fell for some nice fruit and decided to go play in the wrong garden, the world's been on its way to Hell in a handcart.

Here's the good news: humans are too stupid to be so evil on their own. Bad news is, someone's always plenty willing to help them. That's the part you don't know, the part you never see. You're blessed that way.

See, Adam's disobedience opened a door. Just a crack, but it was enough. And the Others reached through.

So every thrillkiller, every sadistic dictator, every sneaky guy on a grassy knoll? There's a little voice whispering in every ear. Yanking the chains, pulling the strings, stirring the pot. And every act of stupid greed and cruelty opens the door just a little wider. For Them.

Call them demons, or devils, or even fallen angels if it makes you feel any better. It doesn't change anything. They feed on your misery, and they use every piece of human garbage they can find to create more.

Who am I, to tell you all this? How do I know more than you do about how the world really works?
