Bishop in Cross Assault Suit by Dalilean Bishop in Cross Assault Suit by Dalilean
After a short break to get my ideas in order and re-evaluate the look and story of Gladius Dei, I came to a conclusion that it was a bit to tame. The characters were to “typical” and stereotyped for my taste. So I decided to go a bit more extreme on them. Using some of the inspirations and ideas I had when I was rethinking the Zorro story, I came to this concept, a stylized future based on the DieselPunk/SteamPunk stylings.

And so I give you the first of these new versions.

This is Deacon Cross in his Combat Suit.

Originally looking like this:

I felt he look to standard, to “the token big black guy of the team”. Now he is going to be the team’s armourer. Stuck in a wheelchair, he goes to combat in this Deisel Powered combat suit.

You had me at Dieselpunk/Steampunk. lol
Very cool. Shame he doesn't look like Tery Crews any more but perhaps that's for the best.
I'm going to have to look into this "stylized future" of yours. :)

The problem with that is each character looses it's individuality and role. Faith is a fast pace acrobatic action shooter. Angel is that long range patient sniper. Deacon is the driver. Bishop is the slow wrecking ball. If you have him out of the armour, it would just be a typical hard hitter. Sometimes moving to the edge of extremes can individualize a character.

The art is good, but a cross on a jack feels a bit too Menoth-like I'm afraid.

Wow - love the concept. Way less cliched. Props!

Although, it would be really important to inform the audience by having him come out of the mech and get in a wheel chair, maybe show off his stumps...?

Anyways. Awesome stuff!

the red and the cross sell bishop to me, the black sells bad ass. When I saw the thumb though the shape felt familiar but I'm not sure from where - but overall a fantastic design.

Ironically I have another color scheme that I tried. Something more washed Green and Greys. It looked like something out of Mech Warrior.

It is part Warjack, part AT-43, part ww2 aircraft.

Personally I love the proportions of the Warjacks. The original hands were based proportionally similar to the Kador Hands. They are bigger than the rest (except for Cryx, but those are claws.) and feel like they have Brass knuckles on them.

What I wanted to make sure was to stay clear from the Anime Mecha look. Nothing wrong with Anime Mecha's but that's not what I was going for.
